Elizabeth Axline

MARION — Elizabeth Louise “Liz” Axline, 92, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Marion General Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1916, in Delaware County she was the daughter of John D. and Sarah A. (Tanner) Mason. She attended Marseilles High School and on Dec. 28, 1933, married William L. Axline, who preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1963. The family moved to Waldo in 1949 and “Liz” worked at “Tim’s Corner” and the Norton Restaurants for a number of years. She later ran her own restaurant for a time.
One of nine children, Elizabeth was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur, James, John S. and Ellwood; three sisters, Ruth LaMarr, Rosie Young and Margaret Christian; a son, James H. “Jimm” Axline; one daughter-in-law, Ruth (Edwards) Axline; and a grandson, Robb Axline.
Elizabeth is survived by one sister, Alwilda Hildreth of Marion; three sons, William E., Robert C. and P. Richard (Pam) Axline, all of Waldo; one daughter, Sharon L. (Alan) Lee of Mount Vernon; and daughter-in-law, Jayne (McComas) Axline of Shelbyville, Ky. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by 11 special grandchildren.
Elizabeth was a member of Peace Community UCC, was an avid sports fan and could be counted on to be in the stands watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren play ball. She also loved watching and reading about her Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes. In addition to her children and grandchildren the pride of her life was her extensive salt and pepper shaker, troll doll and pen collections which she loved to show to family and friends. The family will greet friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Boyd-Born Funeral Home and immediately prior to the celebration of her life at Peace Community Church prior to the service on Tuesday, July 21, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, “Liz” requested that memorial donations be sent to either the National Association of the Terminally ill, P.O. Box 668 Shelbyville, KY 40065; or the Parent & Friends Volunteer Association, Mount Vernon Developmental Center, 1258 Vernonview Drive, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
