Barbara Love Spires

MOUNT VERNON — Barbara E. Love Spires, 73, of Mount Vernon died July 24, 2009.

She was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Columbus to the late Edward H. and Freda (Eddy) Brady. Barbara was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Colonial City Moose Lodge, AMVETS, Eagles, Order of Eastern Star, Knox County Chapter 236, and was a past worthy matron for the Minerva Chapter in Columbus. She earned her bachelor’s in education from The Ohio State University and had her master’s in business administration from Franklin University. Barbara retired after 20 years of service with Anheuser Busch, where she was the first woman supervisor for the company. She was also the first woman supervisor for Timken Industries.

She is survived by her three sons, Edward (Sally) Spires of Vero Beach, Fla., Ron (Becky) Spires of Columbus and Don Spires of Mount Vernon; a brother, Robert E. Brady of Columbus; seven grandchildren, Lea, Brooks, Remmy, Mimi Macy, April, Kristina and Shannin Spires; a great-grandson, Braydon; and her dog, Nikita.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Columbus.
