MOUNT VERNON — Betty Ann Martin, 84, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Wheeling, W.Va., and Massillon, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
Betty was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Howard L. Rothermund and Stella (West) Rothermund. She had been employed as a ward secretary, for nearly 30 years, at the Massillon Community Hospital in Massillon. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Wheeling, W.Va., Grace Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, Fla., and Faith Lutheran Church in Massillon. She was also a member of the Ladies Circle of Mozart in Wheeling, Meyers Lake Ski Club in Canton, Sweet Adelines in Massillon and Senior Chorus in St. Cloud, Fla.
Surviving are her daughters, Patricia A. Davis of Massillon and Janet K. (Stacy L.) Derrick of Walhonding; her son, Donald L. Hans of Naples, Fla.; daughters-in-law, Brenda Hans of Newton, N.C., and Christine L. Hans of Wheeling; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, William Hans; her second husband, Robert J. Martin; a son, William J. Hans; her brother, William Rothermund; and her sisters, Edna Antill, Bertha Davey and Velma Deems.
Private burial will be in Massillon Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Christ Lutheran Church in Wheeling, W.Va.
