MOUNT VERNON — Dorothy L. Carter, 92, of Mount Vernon and formerly of Toledo, passed away peacefully July 29, 2009, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Carter was born in Toledo on July 15, 1917, to Clarence and Dorothy (Ray) Treibold. She married Curtis Carter in Seattle, Wash., on May 27, 1947, and he preceded her in death on March 5, 1999. Dorothy worked for the Springfield Schools as a music teacher for over 20 years retiring in 1984. Dorothy was a lifetime member of First Alliance Church, where she served many years as pianist and organist. Along with her husband, Curtis, she served at several other churches in the greater Toledo area, including the Toledo Mission. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Alan (Judy) Carter and David (Lois) Carter; daughters, Mary Carter and Ruth (Michael) Simon; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Norman Hagedorn.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Noah Hagedorn; son, Charles; grandson, Joshua; and brother, Robert Treibold.
Friends and family will be received in the Neville Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland (419-865-8879) on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Keith Sholl officiating. Burial will follow at Springfield Township Cemetery.
