UTICA — Frances (Spray) McQueen Varner, 86, of Utica passed away Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at Flint Ridge Nursing Home in Newark.
She was born Jan. 23, 1923, in Doddridge County, W.Va., to the late Herbert and Sophia (Bode) Spray. Frances worked as a secretary for United Precast Inc. in Mount Vernon. She was a member of Owl Creek Baptist Church and Morgan Grange.
She is survived by her children, Randal (Diana) McQueen of Mount Vernon, Kevin (Sharon) McQueen of Newark, Marcia (Dr. John) Tidyman of Danville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Glenn (Elsie) Spray, Rex (Evelyn) Spray and Nelson Spray, all of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, David McQueen; second husband, Delbert Varner; two brothers, Howard Spray, Mark Spray; and four sisters, Mabel Spray, Doris Belt, Ruth Kohl and Lucy Strubler.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held Monday at the Owl Creek Baptist Church beginning at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Heizer officiating. Burial will follow in Owl Creek Cemetery.
