MOUNT VERNON — Matthew W. Maggard, 50, of East Hamtramck Street, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at his home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1959, in Franklin County, Ohio, to Gary and Geraldine (Long) Maggard. Matt worked for Maggard’s of Mount Vernon. He served as Specialist 4 in the U.S. Army from 1980 to 1983. Matt was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and was baptized on April 14, 1976. He attended the Trinity Assembly of God in Mount Vernon. Matt had a passion for music and could usually be found singing, playing guitar or working in his music studio.
Besides his parents he is survived by his beloved wife, Kim (Roser) Maggard, whom he married on Feb. 9, 1979; his children, Alex (Teresa) Maggard of Bellville, Lisa (Mike) Mazza of Howard, Ryan (Michael) Maggard, Eric Maggard and Lucas Maggard, all of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Blake, Jordan and Tori Maggard, Aron and John Mazza, Aspen and Evan Maggard; two brothers, Mark (Amy) Maggard of Powell, Michael (Birgit) Maggard of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Laura (John) Cook of Mount Vernon and Linda (David) Patrick of Mount Vernon; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. Pastor Don Matolyak will be officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family and can be left at the funeral home.
