Robert H. Peters

MOUNT VERNON — Robert Herbert Peters, 89, of Mount Vernon passed away Aug. 16, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, where he had been a resident for the past six years.

He was born April 9, 1920, in Maple Heights. He was a member in good standing of Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM; Clinton Chapter 26, Kinsman Council 76; Clinton Commandery 5 K.T.; Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus and Aladdin Shrine. He was also a member of the Knox County Chapter 236, Order of the Eastern Star. Robert was employed by Cooper Energy Services and retired in 1982 after 32 years.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, H. Maxine Peters of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Maxine V. Brakebill of Cleveland, Tenn., and Leatrice Peters of Fredericktown; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence A. Hughes of Hohenwald, Tenn., and Ida Mae Strichko of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Robert M. Peters, on July 26, 2007; grandson, Robert Welker; five brothers; and one sister.

Friends may call Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., where Masonic Services will begin at 8 p.m., conducted by Mount Zion Lodge 9 F&AM followed by an Eastern Star Service conducted by Knox County Chapter 236, Order of the Eastern Star. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
