JOHNSTOWN — John Joseph Colopy, 89, of Johnstown passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Ascension, 555 S. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Father Homer Blubaugh, cousin of John, and the Rev. Father Richard Reichert officiating. Interment to follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Danville.
John was born June 26, 1920, in Danville to the late Germanus and Selora (Arnold) Colopy. John was the former quality control manager for the Curtis-Wright Company in Columbus, spent years as a farmer in the Danville area, plant manager of Lockheed Air Craft in Logan, and retired as a salesman for the Schaffer Oil Company in St. Louis, Mo. John was a member of the Church of the Ascension.
John is survived by his daughters, Linda (Ron) Elkins of Johnstown, Mary Jane (Thomas) White of Gahanna, Marianna Hacker of Newark and Sharon (Paul) Lazar of Zanesville; his sons, Patrick (Melody) Colopy of Johnstown, Dennis Colopy of Columbus and John (Kathy) Colopy of Hebron; brothers, Arnold Colopy of Danville, Carl (Joann) Colopy of Galloway, Leo (Anne) Colopy of Zanesville and Earl (Bea) Colopy of Danville; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Colopy; brother, Germanus Colopy; four sisters, Emma Kirwen, Edith Stull, Mildred Tulloss and Jo Ann Winbigler; and grandson, Anthony J. Lazar.
The family will receive friends at Crouse-Kauber-Sammons Funeral Home, 225 N. Main St., Johnstown, on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil Service at 8 p.m. The Colopy family would like to thank Dr. John Zaino for his love and support and the entire staff at Generations Family Medicine Inc. in Gahanna.
