MOUNT VERNON — Darwin F. Vincent, 92, of Woodberry Drive, Mount Vernon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born on April 25, 1917, on the family farm in Gambier to the late Fred and Mary (Fouts) Vincent. Darwin was a 1934 graduate of Gambier High School. He served seven years as a trustee and 33 years as secretary and treasurer for Union Grove Cemetery. He was a lifetime member of the Grove Church of Christ and 40-year member of the local Farm Bureau. Darwin was a 60-year member of both the Bladensburg-Ohio Lodge 199 F&AM and Bladensburg Glenwood Chapter 303, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a 75-year member of the Pleasant Grange and served as director of the Mount Vernon Exchange from 1970-1980. A true gentleman, he will be sadly missed by many.
He is survived by a stepson, Eric Ritterhoff of Mount Vernon; and a stepgrandson, Mike (Tina) Ritterhoff of Austin, Texas.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera (Banner) Vincent; a brother, Harold Vincent; an infant brother; and a sister, Eileen Shrontz.
A private graveside service will be held in Union Grove Cemetery in Gambier. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Darwin F. Vincent.
