NEWARK — A funeral service for Gertrude M. Medler, 99, of Newark will be Friday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home, with Pastor Ken Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown. Gertrude died Aug. 23, 2009, at Arlington Care Center, Newark.
She was born Aug. 23, 1910, in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio, to the late Frank and Etta (Conard) Melick. Gertrude was a member of Utica United Methodist Church, life member of the Audubon Society, and the Nature Conservancy. She graduated from Muskingum College and was a member of the California Retired Teachers Association, Utica Saturday Revue Club and Hetuck Chapter of the DAR.
She is survived by her sister, Anna Mumford of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband, John Medler, who passed away Feb. 17, 1954; brothers, Eugene, E. Stanley and Joseph M. Melick; sister, Mary Cooke.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to The Dawes Arboretum, 7770 Jacksontown Road SE, Newark, OH 43055.
Friends may call Thursday, Aug. 27, 6-8 p.m., at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.
