MOUNT VERNON — Edwald D. “Ed” Lumm, 77, of Mount Vernon died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at his home.
He was born Sept. 8, 1931, in La Grange, Ind., to Clarence and Roxie (Wells) Lumm. A 1949 graduate of La Grange High School, and a 1952 business graduate of Defiance College in Ohio, he was a member of the Methodist Church. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines from 1954-56. Ed began his career as an internal auditor with Ohio Bell, where he worked for 30 years, retiring from Bell Telecommunications. Thereafter, he served as an auditing consultant with Necca, Ed maintained his membership as a certified internal auditor, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. Upon retirement, Ed and his wife, Joan, moved to Mount Vernon in 1999, where he served as president of the Waters Edge Homeowners’ Association. They loved to travel, and enjoyed the company of friends and family nationwide. Ed was an avid reader, historian and fan of the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University football team.
Ed is survived by his wife, Joan R. (McDaniel) Lumm, whom he married Sept. 13, 1952; their son and daughter-in-law, Charles D. and Frances Lumm of Shoreline, Wash.; his sister-in-law, Kay McDaniel; niece, Pam (Gary) Martin; nephew, Wayne A. McDaniel; and numerous cousins.
His parents and brother-in-law, Don McDaniel, preceded Ed in death.
Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in La Grange, Ind., at a later date.
