HEATH — A funeral service for David Bruce Long, 58, of Heath will be Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Water’s Edge Assembly of God, 2249 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, with the Revs. Rusty Foley and Roger Larrison officiating. Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, Ohio.
Mr. Long went home to be with the Lord as a result of a sudden illness on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at the Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born Nov. 11, 1950, to Arthur G. Long of Lima, Ohio, and the late Clara E. (Weierman) Long.
Mr. Long was a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ with the Assembly of God churches. He had pastored three churches over 23 years. He currently was an evangelist at the Water’s Edge Assembly of God. He loved singing, worshipping and was subject to burst of enthusiasm. Family was very special to him and he was a wonderful grandpa. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening. He was an avid fan for the OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns.
Survivors include his father, Arthur G. Long of Lima; his wife of 39 years, Sally A. (Fredrick) Long; children, Betsy A. (Marc) Stephens of Newark, Adam R. (Siera) Long of Heath, Arthur E. Gilcrist of Heath, Edward B. (Cheryl) Long of Hamden, Ohio, Ruben (Bonnie) Reyes of Alaska, along with many other foster children over 20 years; brothers, Dennis A. (Alice) Long of Mount Vernon, Douglas G. (Louzella) Long of Utica, Michael V. Long of Sparks, Nev.; grandchildren, David, Carmen, Seanna, Zoe, Aliza, Alivia, Nicholas, Brianna, Rebecca; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be observed Thursday, Sept. 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Water’s Edge Assembly of God, 2249 Cherry Valley Road, Newark.
The family requests memorial contributions to the Water’s Edge Assembly of God. Envelopes will be available at the church.
The Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
