MOUNT VERNON — Dominick Francis Carlo, 87, of Mount Vernon passed away Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2009, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.
He was born March 6, 1922, in Toledo, son of the late Frank and Angeline Carlo. Dominick retired from the Defense Supply Center in Columbus as a welder. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Dominick was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
Dominick is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Blubaugh) Carlo, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1986; a son, Frank (Judy) Carlo of Blacklick; stepsons, Michael Blanchard of Danville and Kevin Blanchard of Mount Vernon; daughters, Barbara (David Sowards) Carlo and Shirley (John) Kirkland, both of Reynoldsburg; a stepdaughter, Mary Catherine (Bob) Hinds of Penasco, N.M.; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony (Jeanette) Carlo of Toledo; sisters, Angie Carros of Rossburg, Giovanni Cooper of Princeton, Ky., and Mary Parker of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dominick was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Carlo; and a brother, Pete Carlo.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with a vigil service to follow the visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon with Monsignor Carl Clagett and the Rev. Father Homer D. Blubaugh as the celebrants. Military honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council at the church. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lockbourne.
