Darwin ‘Darb’ Gamble

MOUNT VERNON — Darwin P. “Darb” Gamble, 87, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 10, 1922, in Butler Township to the late Marie (Beltz) and Clyde Gamble. He was married to Donna Bechtel on Sept. 15, 1958. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and attended the Danville Grace Brethren, and the Ankenytown Brethren churches. He worked as a mechanic and attendant at Spearman’s Restaurant and filling station for over 30 years, and at Don’s Plaza Shell Station in Mount Vernon. He also worked with the Dusthimer Funeral Home in Danville for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Gamble.

He is survived by a sister-in-law, Naomi Leedy; a brother-in-law, Bill Bechtel; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at the Ankenytown Brethren Church 20601 Old Mansfield Road, on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. Pastor Al Hockley will officiate. Burial will follow in Ankenytown Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is handling arrangements; www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
