Kathleen Selsam

MOUNT VERNON — Kathleen (Roberts) Selsam, 103, of Melick Street, Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1905, in Columbus to the late James and Lizza (McKibben) Roberts. Kathleen was a 1923 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She became a licensed Registered Nurse after graduating from Bethesda Hospital in Zanesville. In 1943, Kathleen studied Polio treatments at Minnesota University with Sister Elizabeth Kenny. She was a member of Gay Street United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Muskingum Chapter 485 in Zanesville, Knox-Licking District of Ohio Nurses Association, American Nurses Association and former member of the Knox County Art Guild. Kathleen also worked for the March of Dimes.

She is survived by many close friends and caretakers and will be sadly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samford Selsam.

Friends may call Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, where an Eastern Star service will follow at noon. A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Zanesville Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. David Baker will be officiating.
