HOWARD — Grace L. Carpenter, 93, of Brown Township, Howard, died Monday morning, Sept. 28, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital.
She was born July 20, 1916, in Howard, a daughter of the late Charles and Lulu Bell (Hall) Snyder. Grace was a homemaker and helped farm the family farm with her late husband, Gilbert. She was a member of the Jelloway United Methodist Church. Grace cared for a lot of her extended family over the years.
Grace is survived by her sons, Gary (Susie) Carpenter and Perry (Roma) Carpenter, both of Howard; a daughter, Diana (Carmel) McFadden of Howard; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur E. (Judy) Snyder of Fredericktown; several nieces and nephews; and special family, Eddie Lee (Sandra) Carpenter of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
In addition to her parents, Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Carpenter; brothers, Lester, Robert, Russell and Charles Snyder; and sisters, Alice Stumbaugh, Edna Mae Mason and Dorothy Kershner.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
