Gordon V. Laymon

GAMBIER — Gordon V. Laymon, 87, of Gambier died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 29, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Gambier, son of the late Stephen and Edna (Vernon) Laymon. Gordon was a 1940 graduate of the former Gambier High School. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass in Newark. Gordon was a member of the Grove Church of Christ near Gambier and the Gambier Fishing Club. Along with fishing, Gordon enjoyed gardening and reading.

Gordon is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor (Durbin) Laymon, whom he married Feb. 21, 1942; a brother, Donald Laymon of Gambier; and special family friends, Roger and Cindy Wood and daughters.

In addition to his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Laymon; and a sister, Gladys Hillier.

The family will have a graveside service for Gordon on Saturday, Oct. 3, at noon in the Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier with Evangelist Jerold Tear officiating.
