Cathy Lee Sturgess

NEWARK — Cathy Lee Sturgess, 59, of Newark and formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at her residence.

She was born July 6, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late William and Dorothy (Chandler) Blight. Cathy was a preschool teacher at the Montessori Community School in Newark and Knox County Head Start in Mount Vernon. She was an advocate for early childhood development and also assisted many others in need during the course of her life. Cathy enjoyed sewing, gardening and taking care of animals.

She is survived by a son, Gabe Sturgess of Columbus; two daughters, Heather (Jim) Crowell of Point of Rocks, Md., and Lindsey (Nathan) Young of Perrysville; three grandchildren; two brothers, Alan Blight of Hawaii and William Blight of Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service and burial will be at Quarry Chapel in Gambier on Monday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m.
