NEWARK — Yvonne “Vonnie” Young Clemings, 72, formerly of Hanover, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. She died at the Hospice of Central Ohio’s Selma Markowitz Care Center.
Friends and families are invited to attend a funeral service that will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark. Calling hours will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. Internment will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery, Newark.
Vonnie was born July 17, 1937, to Alice Daisy (Evans) Young and Thomas Daniel Young in Granville. Vonnie was raised in Mount Vernon and graduated from Gambier High School. Vonnie was a dedicated wife and mother, who lived her adult life in Newark and Hanover. She particularly enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, and being with her family. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed canning the fruits and vegetables from the family garden and orchard.
Vonnie will forever be remembered by her family, especially her husband of 53 years, John Clemings; much-loved children — sons, Russell (Becky) Clemings of Newark, Daniel (Anita) Clemings of Marne, and daughter, Jonda Clemings of Newark; treasured grandchildren — grandson, Joseph “Joe” Clemings of Newark, and three granddaughters, Andrea Clemings of Carrolton, Jocelyn Clemings of Cleveland and Caitlin Clemings of Marne; two stepgrandsons, Trevor Smith and Travis Smith of Newark; two sisters, Dolores (Ed) Heagren of Mount Vernon and Geri Bean of Dayton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Young, Hiram Rector and Dale Rector; and sisters, Beatrice Swan and Lillian Howell.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Road S.E., Newark, Ohio.
