Elwood Smith

DELAWARE — Elwood “Smitty” Smith, 70, of Delaware died Oct. 19, 2009, at home.

He was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Elliot County, Ky., and was a Delaware resident since 1960. He worked as a construction superintendent for XL Corp., Cody Ziegler and recently retired from C&N Construction.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta “Bert” (Milliron); children, Monte Smith of Ashley, Jeff Smith of Radnor, Tina Marie Scott of Aurora, Colo., Jason Smith, Jodi Herring and Jeni Smith, all of Delaware; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his mother, Myrtle (Whitt) Smith, brother, J.R. Smith, and sister, Pauline Schoenberger, all of Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard; and sister, Mavis Welch.

Visitation is Thursday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where service will be Friday at 1 p.m. with J.R. Smith and the Rev. Andy Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Berkshire Cemetery.
