DANVILLE — Harold J. Mickley, 69, lost his battle with cancer and went home to be with his family in heaven on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009.
He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Mount Vernon to Ralph and Clara (Gardner) Mickley. He was a 1958 graduate of Danville High School, and was a member of the ’56 undefeated football team. He was in the Army Reserves from 1962-68. On Nov. 25, 1967, he was married to Margaret Joanna Cotton.
He was a former Jaycee member, and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also very active in the annual Raccoon Dinner. He was a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. He and his wife owned and operated “The Hangout” from 1970-81. Harold loved hunting, fishing, camping, good food and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife, Joanna Mickley of Danville; his children, Perry L. Mickley (friend Darla Hollingsworth) of Delaware, Lisa M. (Dean) Jackson of Ashland, Ky., and Brenda S. Mickley of Durham, N.C.; grandchildren, Evan, Emma and Gracie Mickley, and Tim and Daniel Jackson; a brother, Leo (Teresa) Mickley, and a sister, Martha Stutz, both of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Louis, Earl, Glen and Rodney Mickley; and a sister, Ruth Ann Herbert.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. at the St. Luke Catholic Church in Danville. The Rev. F. Richard Snoke will officiate. Burial will be in St. Luke Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the church on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by a prayer service.
