David A. Lucas

MOUNT VERNON — David A. Lucas, 69, of Mansfield Road, Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born April 18, 1940, in Mount Vernon to the late Dorus and Marian (Johnson) Lucas. David was a 1958 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1994 after 34 years of employment with General Motors in Mansfield. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Loyal Order of the Moose, AMVETS Post 95, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, all of Mount Vernon. David was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Julie (Biefnes) Lucas; two stepsons, Brian (Tammy) Totten of Sunbury and Drew (Teresa) Totten of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Tristen Totten, Tim Shaffer, Don Shaffer and Austin Priest; a sister, Ruth (Don) Morrison of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo (David) Layman and Peggy Biefnes Updike.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dale Ann Lucas; and two brothers, Robert Lucas and Bernard Lucas.

The family will observe a private service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of David A. Lucas.
