MOUNT VERNON — Edith Louise Hockenberry, 91, of Mount Vernon died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 23, 1918, in Amity, a daughter of the late Burgess and Ada (Robinson) Hauger. Louise was a Registered Nurse for the former Mercy Hospital, Martin Memorial, and Knox Community Hospital having retired in 1992 with 50 years of faithful service to the Knox County community. After retirement, Louise volunteered with Hospice of Knox County and Interchurch. She was a member the First Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon.
Louise is survived by her sons, James O. (Susan) Hockenberry of Heath and Dennis W. (Linda) Hockenberry of Strasburg; a daughter, Dr. Marilyn Joyce Hockenberry of Houston, Texas; a brother, John Hauger of Butler; grandchildren, Bryan, Chad, Carrie and Andrew; and great-grandchildren, Cole, Austin, Connor, Caylee, Brycen and Bennett. Louise will be sadly missed by friends at The Living Center in Mount Vernon, where she had made her home for the last few years.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Hockenberry; sisters, Mary Ann Gallagher and Elizabeth Tharp; and a great-granddaughter, Flower.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Ave., Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in the Amity Cemetery.
