UTICA — A graveside service for Edward D. Casper, 86, of Utica will be Friday, Oct. 30, at 10 a.m. at Owl Creek Cemetery with a military service. Ed died Oct. 27, 2009, at Ohio State University Hospitals, Columbus.

He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Utica to the late Bernard and Goldie (Farley) Casper. He was past Post Commander of the Utica VFW and a member of the Utica American Legion Post 92. Ed was a World War II Army veteran having fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also volunteered at the Columbus VA Clinic.

He is survived by his nieces, Betty (Ronald) Melick of Fredericktown, Beverly Dunlap of Panama City, Fla.; nephews, James Casper of Richlands, N.C., Bernard (Beverly) Casper of La Grange, Ky., Harold C. (Marcie) Bond Jr. of Mount Vernon; friend, Marjorie Layton of Utica.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bernard Casper Jr. and Rufus Casper; sisters, Louise Bond, Gertrude Pesta, Mary Newmaster and Florence Davis.

Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, is assisting the family with arrangements.
