MOUNT VERNON — Richard C. Stalter, 89, of 31 Crestview Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
He was born April 26, 1920, in Bucyrus to the late Clyde and Mamie (Fawley) Stalter and moved to the Mount Vernon area in 2001 from Englewood, Fla. During World War II, Richard served as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1942-45. Richard retired as assistant sales manager for the Buckeye Aluminum Co., and had been sales manager for Western Stoneware Co., and vice president and director of public relations for the city of Monmouth, Ill. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Englewood, Fla., member of the Kiwanis Club, American Legion, Lions Club and was a 50-year member of Ebenezer Lodge 136 F&AM in Wooster, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Helen (McCoy) Stalter, whom he married Feb. 18, 1945; a grandson, Richard DuMoulin of Oklahoma; a sister, Betty Hoeflich of Fredericktown; nephews, Spencer Hoeflich and Clyde Hoeflich, both of Fredericktown.
Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally DuMoulin; and a brother, William Stalter.
There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held by the family and burial will be in Christ Lutheran Memorial Cemetery in Englewood, Fla.
