MARENGO — Robert Clay “Bob” Allen, 76, of Marengo, fell asleep in the Lord to await the resurrection when Christ shall come. MAYBE TODAY!
Robert was born June 25, 1933, in Mount Vernon to Hubert and Cynthabelle (Poland) Allen Carswell, who preceded him in death. Bob retired after 35 years employment with Chattanooga Glass Co. in Mount Vernon, while at the same time pastoring Advent Christian Churches in Ohio at Claibourne, Stantontown, Mount Liberty, Seville and Sparta, retiring in 2002. He continued to serve as senior pastor or pastor emeritus of the Sparta church until his death. Bob was known as a visiting pastor, always sharing Christ with many people in hospitals and homes. He also served as president of the Ohio Advent Christian Conference for nine years. With his wife, Mary, he conducted services at the Morrow Manor on Wednesday afternoons for many years.
While living on the Avon Holiness Campground (Florida) during the past several winters, he served as chaplain of the campground. He also served faithfully in various positions in the Orange Blossom Church of Christ in Christian Union in Avon Park. He was also active in The Pacer Ministries in the prison system there.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary (Tippett) Lloyd Allen; daughter, Sue (Jerry) Dollison of Marengo; son, Jeffry (Julie) Allen of Columbus; sisters, June Stevens of Fredericktown and Jerrie Larason of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Martha Snyder of Mount Liberty, Marge (Tom) Easter of Live Oak, Fla., and Clara (Richard) Young of Wabash, Ind.; brother-in-law, Charles (Barbara) Tippett of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of friends and former parishioners.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Lauretta (Snyder) Allen, in 1995; sister, Betty, and brother-in-law, Tom Reasoner of Sebring, Fla.; and brothers-in-law, Marshall Stevens and Bruce Snyder.
Friends may call Tuesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m., where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Rob Musick will be officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Liberty Cemetery.
