MOUNT VERNON — Arthur Carl Perkins, 82, of Mount Vernon died Sunday morning, Nov. 15, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Tazwell County, Va., a son of the late Willard and Dora Pearl (Dye) Perkins. Arthur Carl was a lifelong member of the former Mount Liberty United Methodist Church. He retired from American Can and Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon and was an Army veteran.
Arthur Carl is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Martha Jean (Keller) Perkins, whom he married on June 15, 1947; a son, Monty (Ruth) Perkins of Crestline; daughters, Dorothy (Ed) Owens of Apple Valley and Ruth (Dale) Thaxton of Bradner; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Clyde (Jeanette) Perkins of Lexington and Lawrence (Barbara) Perkins of Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, Arthur Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Perkins.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flower-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Thom Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.
