MOUNT VERNON — Richard “Dick” Wade, 86, of Mount Vernon passed away Nov. 30, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 24, 1923, in Commercial Point, Ohio, to the late Richard Lehr and Mary (Eisel) Wade. Richard was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a proud World War II Army veteran. After returning home from the war he found and married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Blubaugh, on June 11, 1947. Richard worked for 43 years at Cooper Energy Services until his retirement in 1985. He was an avid fisherman and gardener who loved to share the fruits of his labors with friends. He was also known for his turtle noodling abilities and his homemade turtle soup. He never missed a social gathering that involved friends and family. Richard had a zest for life and thanked God everyday for his many blessings.
Richard was blessed with five children, Michael J. Wade of Fredericktown, Richard W. Wade of Mount Vernon, Patricia A. (Gordon) Biggs of Mount Vernon, Rose M. (Butch) Stiltner of Abingdon, Va., Bernadette (Charlie) Bonsell of Mount Vernon; sisters, Harriet Brown of Oak Lawn, Ill., Theresa (Lawrence) Krempel of Utica, Lehrine (Don) Deardorff of Hamilton, Margaret (Don) Ogg of Greenfield; grandchildren, Angie Keene, Nathan Biggs, Garrett Bonsell, Renee Bonsell, Christopher Wade and Laura Wade; three great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Mary “Mona” Looker of Utica.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Wade, in 1981; and a sister, Louise Flowers.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where a Rosary service will follow calling hours. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Burial, with military honors conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
