MOUNT VERNON — Daniel L. “Dan” Farley, 70, of Dixie Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at his home on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009.
He was born Sept. 10, 1939, in Utica to the late Lee and Elenor (Atherton) Farley. Dan was a graduate of Utica High School where he was a three sport letter winner in baseball, football and basketball. He was known for being a hard worker. He was employed at the Mount Vernon News, where he worked as a pressman, and retired from the Mohican Youth Center, where he worked for over 10 years. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Mount Vernon Police Auxiliary. He coached his sons in youth sports in Gambier and Mount Vernon. Dan was very active in the areas golfing, bowling and softball leagues, but his love was spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Rita (Gaspar) Farley; four sons, Mark Farley of San Antonio, Texas, Greg Farley of Kialua-Kona, Hawaii, Jason (Michelle) Carter of Woodhaven, Mich., and Zane (Stephanie) Carter of Boyne City, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Ryan, Jacob and Kai Farley, Madison, Brady, Joel and Malorie Carter; and three sisters, Beverly (Bob) Melick of Newark, Susan (Donald) Moody of Centerburg and Jackie Anders of Mount Vernon.
Besides his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Wendell Farley.
Friends may call Thursday at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. A private service will be held at a later date.
