MOUNT VERNON — Carl G. Jones III, 57, of Mount Vernon died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence.
Carl was born July 31, 1952, in Youngstown, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1970 and The Ohio State University 1975. He had been employed for over 20 years with United Precast Industries in Mount Vernon before becoming an Independent Manufacturers Representative for over 10 years. Carl was recently employed by Lanning’s Foods in Mount Vernon as Director of Human Resources/Food Safety.
Carl had a love of music particularly his guitars. He had been a member of several rock bands in the area, most notably “Axyle.” He maintained a longtime association with the Mount Vernon YMCA. He was a former member of the YMCA’s Young Leaders, and was a member and past president of the YMCA Board of Directors.
He was a member of the Mount Vernon Country Club and was an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Hamilton, whom he married July 24, 1981; his son, Darrin (Jamie) Jones of Wooster; two grandchildren, Abbigail Jones and Riley Jones; his mother, Barbara (Jones) Jones of Mount Vernon; his brother, Thomas (Susan) Jones of Novi, Mich.; and his sister, Judy Jones of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl G. Jones Jr., on Oct. 30, 2005.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. A service celebrating the life of Carl G. Jones III will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Gay Street United Methodist Church, 18 N. Gay St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Dr. David A. Baker officiating.
