HAMILTON — Lewis Lease, 85, of Glenway Drive, Hamilton, and formerly of Mount Vernon, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home in Middletown.

He was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Wolf, Ohio, to the late Lewis M. and Carrie (Hughes) Lease. Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired in 1985 from Continental Can Co. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Vine Street Church of God (Disciples of Christ) and was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by two sons, Mike Lease of Hamilton and Jeff (Rebecca) Lease of La Junta, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Mull, Carrie (Nicholas) Davis, Brandon Lease and Lindsey Lease; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Zella Cullison of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lease; and four sisters, Opal Yontz, Lela Holsky, Evelyn Lease and Nancy Carpenter.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Entombment with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
