MOUNT VERNON — David R. Lowe, 59, of Cliff Street, Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 1, 1950, in Tazewell County, Va., to the late John and Annie (Brewster) Lowe Sr. David served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked for Pedal Valves in New Orleans and retired in 2004 from the city of Mount Vernon. David was a frequent visitor of the Mount Vernon Public Library.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Deborah (White) Lowe; two sons, John Lowe III of Mount Vernon and Riley Lowe of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Missi (Coty) Shellenbarger of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Taylor Lowe, Kiley Lowe, John Lowe IV and Bryson Shellenbarger, two brothers, Ronnie (Shelia) Lowe and Ralph Lowe, and a sister, Margaret (Harold) Chanay, all of Mount Vernon.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Lowe II; and a sister, Jeanette Gregory.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A prayer service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
