MOUNT VERNON — The Rev. Richard W. Jaymes, 86, of West Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born March 3, 1923, in Huntington County, Pa., to the late Robert and Zora Selma (Nearhood) Jaymes. Rev. Jaymes was an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and served as an Evangelist for 45 years. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Ruth (McGillvary) Jaymes; two daughters, Miriam (Rev. Michael) Thomas of Nelsonville, Mary (Bob) West of Mount Vernon; three sons, David Jaymes of Mount Vernon, Paul Jaymes of Mount Vernon, Rev. Jon (Pam) Jaymes of South Lyon, Mich.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Isabelle Gearhart of Hagerstown, Md.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Anne Jaymes of Shippensburg, Pa.

Besides his parents, Rev. Jaymes was preceded in death by a sister, Effie Jaymes; and two brothers, Sherman and George Jaymes.

Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 807 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon. A funeral service, with calling hours one hour prior, will be held Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Jack Christner officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
