MOUNT VERNON — Eva H. Smith, 82, of Vernedale Drive and formerly Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 7, 1927, in Mount Vernon to the late John and Helen (Grennell) Shannon. Eva was a member of the Pine Street First Church of God (Anderson, Ind.) Eva was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by many.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert “Gene” Smith; four daughters, Diana (Terry) Van Houten of Howard, Linda George of Mount Vernon, Bonnie Smith of Reynoldsburg and Susan Vernon of Mansfield; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth Sanor of Mount Vernon and Elizabeth Conn of Mount Vernon.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Craig Van Houten; four brothers, John Shannon Jr., Robert Shannon, Charles Shannon and James Shannon; three sisters, Viola Warner, Mary Cagnon and Lela Llewellyn.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Pine Street First Church of God, 10 Pine St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
