MOUNT VERNON — Larry E. Spellman, 71, of Mount Vernon passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.
He was born on April 26, 1938, in Mount Vernon to Lee and Helen (Bennett) Spellman. Larry was a template maker for Gruman Flexible in Loudonville for 35 years before retiring in 1991. He was a longtime member of the Eastside Church of Christ. A member of both the Mansfield and Newark Lapidary Clubs and the Mount Vernon Coin Club. Larry enjoyed stone and wood crafting, hunting, fishing and gardening, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Ann (Martin) Spellman, whom he married Feb. 14, 1958; two daughters, Janet (Eli) Troyer of Orrville, Debby (Terry) Bumpus of Centerburg, eight grandchildren, Rhoda (Nate) Holton, Rachel (Nate) Barrett, Daniel (Hannah) Troyer, Susan (Kevin) Shaffer, Nicholas (Andrea) Bumpus, Lindsey (Logan) Thrasher, Emily Bumpus and Collin Bumpus; three great-grandchildren; four expected great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith Boyd of Utica; and a brother, Glen Spellman of Mount Vernon.
His parents and a brother, Carroll Spellman, preceded him in death.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Private graveside funeral service will be Thursday in Mound View Cemetery with Mr. Rick Tincher officiating.
