SAHAURITA, Ariz. — Virginia Kay Laughbaum Gerlach, 65, of Sahaurita, Ariz., passed away Jan. 24, 2010, after a brief illness.
Kay was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Galion, Ohio, a daughter of the late Stanley and Betty Laughbaum. She graduated from Galion High School in 1962 and lived in Mount Vernon, Ohio, for several years. In 1971, she moved to Grove City, Pa., where she worked for Cooper Energy Services until the late 1990s. In 2005, she returned to live in her hometown of Galion, and had just moved out West in September of last year. Kay was of the Episcopal faith and enjoyed dancing, needlework and spending time with her with friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Robert Swatland, and their children, Luke, Nathaniel and Norah of Bethesda, Md.; daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Christopher Settelen, and their children, Caroline, Corinne and Cole of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, James and Beth Laughbaum; and brother, Roger Laughbaum of Galion, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Rhodes of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Melvin Hershey of Mansfield, Ohio; and many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She is also survived by her companion William Segura of Sahaurita, Ariz., and former husbands, Fred Curren of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Robert Gerlach of Kennerdale, Pa.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, Ohio.
