MOUNT VERNON — John M. Barnes, 78, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

John was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Vandalia, Ill., to John and Selma (Wilhelm) Barnes. John served with the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Janice (Taylor) Barnes; his sons, Roger A. (Patrice) Barnes of Dublin, and Jeffrey M. Barnes and Timothy J. (Diana) Barnes, both of Mount Vernon; his daughter, Connie S. (Robert) Crock of Hopewell; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy J.C. Barnes.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 9, from noon until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond presiding. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
