MOUNT VERNON — Gladys J. Gardner, 71, of Mount Vernon died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Gladys was born Oct. 10, 1938, in Mount Vernon to William Paul Beckholt and Edith (Kellogg) Beckholt and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She retired in 1996 from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center in Mount Vernon, where she had been employed for 30 years. Gladys was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included bingo, sewing, crocheting, crafts and gardening.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas A. Gardner Sr., whom she married Nov. 1, 1974; her children, daughter Cheryl (Paisley) and John Ewalt of Mount Vernon, daughter Lori (Paisley) and Jack Furgerson of Chillicothe, Ill., daughter Gwen (Paisley) and Rick Gibson of Bellville, and daughter Holly (Paisley) Rainey of Newport News, Va.; stepchildren, Tom Gardner Jr. of Mount Vernon, Linda Gardner of Mount Vernon, Laura (Gardner) and Gary Wedemyer of Howard, and Karen (Gardner) and Robert Betancourt of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren: 12 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Luella Mac Mahan of Edelstein, Ill. Besides her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by a sister, Reta Neighbarger.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the funeral service.
