MILLERSBURG — Dr. James Robert “J.R.” Fair, 79, of Millersburg died of complications of a stroke Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.

He was born Nov. 15, 1930, in Millersburg, and was the son of the late Stuart and Ida Fair. Dr. Fair graduated in 1955 from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. He retired from his dental practice after 41 years and had served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He loved hunting, working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane (Clark), whom he married on April 13, 1958, in the United Methodist Church of Millersburg; four daughters, Sharon (Jim) Proper of Danville, Beverly Fair of Columbus, Nancy Fair of San Diego, Calif., and Linda (Mike) Lee of New Albany; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Esther (Don) Cleckner of Hampton, Va.; sisters-in-law, Lois Clark of Berlin, Ohio, Heidi Clark and Myrna Clark, both of Millersburg; brothers-in-law, John (Pat) Clark of Millersburg, Gerald Clark of Orrville, Carl (Judy) Clark and Dan Allison, both of Millersburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Fair was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Fair.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with the funeral service scheduled at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Graveside service will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
