MOUNT VERNON — Donald H. Wilson, 88, of Mount Vernon died Feb. 8, 2010, at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 3, 1921, in Wellsville to the late Henry and Laverna (Llewelyn) Wilson. Don was a proud Army veteran, earning a Bronze Star, Asia Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was member of the Faith Lutheran Church, a life member of the AMVETS, VFW, Eagles and the Elks Lodge. Don owned and operated Jody’s Restaurant with his late wife for over 30 years and also retired from Continental Can in 1978. He was a dedicated sponsor to the Mount Vernon youth sports and currently held the Quarter Master position for the VFW Post 4027.

He is survived by his children, Kyle Wilson of Pikeville, Ky., Rahn (Deb) Wilson and Lisa (Tim) Baldwin, both of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a half brother, Clifford Goodballot of Memphis, Tenn.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Joan “Jody” Wilson; son, Dehner Wilson; brother, Darrell Wilson; and a sister, Mary Evelyn.

Memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home. A time of food and fellowship to celebrate Don’s life will follow the service at the AMVETS Post 95, 200 W. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon.
