MOUNT VERNON — Robert Freedom Lord, 70, passed away Feb. 14, 2010, at
Knox Community Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1939, in Mount Vernon to Howard and Elizabeth (Weaver) Lord.
Robert served in the U.S. Army and participated in the honor guard in Washington,
D.C., while stationed at Fort Meyer. Robert worked as a welder for Flexible for
20 years and for the Mount Vernon Street Department for 17 years. He loved helping
his community by volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. Robert loved to ride motorcycles.
Robert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Esther (Hartley); three children,
Dawn Coe, Melissa (John) Shaw and Kevin Lord, all of Mount Vernon; three sisters,
Susan Schooley and Ellen (Durwood) Stopher, both of Mount Vernon, and Ann (Tom)
Carpenter of Cardington; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Lord.
Friends may call at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon,
on Tuesday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., where funeral service will begin
at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
