MOUNT VERNON — Ruth I. Leedy, 93, of Mount Vernon died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Ruth was born Dec. 5, 1916, in Richland County to Andrew and Lillie Blanche (Gaddis) Weller and had spent her lifetime in the Fredericktown and Mount Vernon areas. She was a graduate of Fredericktown High School and had been an active member of the Palmyra Church of Christ where she had served as Sunday school teacher, Youth Group leader and had been a member of the church choir. Ruth was also a member of the Delphian Book Study Club in Mount Vernon, was a member of Knox Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star and had sung in the Eastern Star Choir, and was a member of the Knox County Republican Women’s Club.
Surviving Ruth are her children, daughter, Priscilla (Edward) Day of Tobyhanna, Pa., her son, Preston (Judy) Leedy of Dunwoody, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kevin Leedy, Allison Ramjhattan, Ted Day and Andrew Day; four great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Chester Leedy of Fredericktown.
Besides her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Galen F. Leedy, in 2003; brothers, Fred E. Weller, Myles Weller, John Weller and Lester Weller; and sisters, Eura Shaffer, Pearl Fisher, Mary Grace Weller and Mildred Long.
Funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Palmyra Church of Christ, with Mr. Troy Northrop officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m.
