MOUNT VERNON — Naomi J. Vance, 80, of Mount Vernon passed away Saturday evening, March 6, 2010, in the emergency room at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Columbus, a daughter of the late Norman J. and Marcella (Reed) Helser. Naomi attended the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. She was active in the Republican Party, which included being a member of the Republican Women’s Club where she served a year as president. In 2000, Naomi was given the honor of Republican Woman of the Year. She was also a member of Soroptomist in Mount Vernon. Before retirement, Naomi was the office manager for the former Mount Vernon Cable Vision.
Naomi is survived by her daughter, Kim (Dick) McCann of Howard; a son, Chester (Mitzi) Vance III of Coshocton; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman (Carolyn) Helser of Reynoldsburg; sister, Audrey (David) Rathburn of Columbus; brother-in-law, Ronald Baker of Columbus; and a sister-in-law, Janis (Jim) Cripe of Westerville.
In addition to her parents, Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Vance Jr., in 2000; and little sister, Martha Baker, in 2009.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 10, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery.
