MARENGO — Robert E. “Uncle Bob” Dowalter Jr., 58, of Marengo died Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born in Delaware, on April 20, 1951, the son of the late Robert E. Dowalter Sr. and Betty L. (Thompson) Dowalter. He attended Highland High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Uncle Bob had friends all over the county, especially in Marengo where he never missed an opportunity for a good time. Those friendships ran so deep that most of Marengo made the journey to Columbus to visit him in the hospital.

A sports fanatic, Uncle Bob loved his NASCAR and his “buddy” Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also followed UFC and was a fan of the Browns, Patriots, and of course, The Ohio State Buckeyes. He even had his living room decorated in the Scarlet and Grey.

He will be missed by his brothers, Gary L. and his wife Bonnie of Caledonia, Rick and his wife Janet of Edison, and Steve of Mount Gilead; his best friend, Phillip Nunn of Marengo; stepdaughter, Yvonne Lewis of Mount Vernon; stepsister, Sue (Bill) Prichard of West Virginia; a special niece, Lynn Simpkins and her husband Gerald Richardson; a special friend, Becky Asbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place at a later date in Homer.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the family, c/o the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338. For those wishing to express their condolences to Uncle Bob’s family, you may do so by visiting
