DANVILLE — M. Gene Horn, 79, of Danville-Jelloway Road, Danville, died Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2010, in Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon.

Gene was born Sept. 27, 1930, on his family’s Brown Township farm where he lived all of his life. He was the son of the late Virgil E. and Mary B. (Roberts) Horn. He was a 1948 graduate of Loudonville High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a dairy and beef farmer all of his life and was a former salesman for Madison Seed Co. He served Brown Township as clerk for 19 years and was employed with the township road crew for 16 years. He was an active member of the Knox County Farm Bureau, serving 10 years as president. He was an avid hunter and was the Jelloway Valley 4-H advisor for many years. He was a member, former deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and superintendent of the North Bend Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Nunn Horn, whom he married Dec. 27, 1953; two sons, Daniel M. (Peggy) Horn and Douglas Horn, all of rural Danville; one daughter, Deborah (Carmen) Latorre of Galena; and six grandchildren, Christopher Horn, Jonathan (Kristen) Horn, Laura Horn, Michael Latorre, Nick Latorre and Darcy Horn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, at 11 a.m. in North Bend Church of the Brethren, 24474 Orange Hill Road, Danville, with the Rev. Patrick Bailey officiating. Burial will be in North Bend Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 and 6 to 8 p.m. in North Bend Church of the Brethren.
