AUSTINTOWN — There will be graveside services Tuesday, April 20, at 2 p.m. in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, for Gordon C. Buchanan, 87, of Austintown, Ohio, formerly of Fredericktown, who died Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Gordon was born April 27, 1922, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Andrew and Minnie Abbott Buchanan. He had served in the Army during World War II in the tank division and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Gordon was an auto mechanic and had owned and operated Buchanan Auto Electric in Ashtabula from 1959 until he retired in 1986.
His wife, the former Juanita Withrow, whom he married May 1942, died Aug. 3, 2009. He leaves his daughter, Peggy Russell of Austintown; one brother, Wayne Buchanan of Bradford, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Besides his parents and his wife, Gordon, was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Peelman; and four brothers, Gerald Buchanan, Ivan Buchanan, Warren Buchanan and Walter Buchanan.
Arrangements are being handled by Thompson Funeral Home, Youngstown.
