MOUNT VERNON — Rick Carder, 49, of Blackjack Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 25, 1961, in Sutton, West Virginia, to the late Earl and Mary (Widener) Carder. Rick worked for Pond Tire in Mount Vernon and served 12 years in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Jane (Freeman) Carder; four sons, Scott Bittinger of Bealton, Virginia, and Daniel Bittinger, Keith Carder and Linn Carder, all of Mount Vernon; eight grandchildren; a brother, Alonzo (Cindy) Carder of Akron; and three sisters, Joyce Carder, Ada (Bill) Stewart and Vickie Carder, all of West Virginia.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Carder; and two brothers, Roger Carder and Russell Carder.

The family will have a memorial service Friday, April 23, at 5 p.m. at the Church on the Rise, 7521 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Kevin Peterson officiating. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will provide military honors.
