MOUNT VERNON — William J. “Bill” Blaschke Sr., 79, of Highmeadow Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Charles and Julia (Tobin) Blaschke Sr. Bill served in the U.S. Army and worked as a manufacturing sales representative for construction equipment. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 427 and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna (Oidtmann) Blaschke; three sons, William (Barbara) Blaschke Jr. of Gambier, Brian (Karen) Blaschke of Elk Grove, Calif., and John (Donna) Blaschke of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Julie (Mike) Richardson of Gulf Shores, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jonathan Richardson, Charles Blaschke, Danielle Blaschke, Brianna Blaschke; and a brother, Charles Blaschke Jr. of Lisbon, N.D.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Smallwood; and a half sister, Stella Maroon.

Friends may call Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, where a rosary will be said at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council, will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
