MOUNT VERNON — Loraine Thomas, 85, of West Vine Street, Mount Vernon, passed away at home with her family at her side on Saturday, April 24, 2010.
She was born June 18, 1924, in Middlesboro, Ky., to the late Walter and Ethel (Shumate) Tennyson. Loraine worked for Ashcraft Janitorial Services from which she retired in 1997. She attended the Old Yonder Creek Baptist Church.
Loraine is survived by her daughters, Willetta (Mark) Coleman of Mount Vernon and Linda (Gary) Burson of Butler; four sons, John Thomas of Missouri, Steve (Connie) Thomas of Mount Vernon, Hershel (Tammy) Thomas of Fredericktown and Gary Thomas of Mount Vernon; 14 grandchildren, Anthony, Shane, Derek, Lacey, Taylor, Ty, Chase, Haley, Cameron, Brandy, Heather, Josh, Zack and Travis; two stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
Besides her parents, Loraine was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Thomas; her stepmother, Martha Tennyson; a brother, William Tennyson; two sisters, Wilma Tennyson and Pauline Dement; three grandchildren, Jenny Burson, J.T. Thomas and Garrett White; and a stepgranddaughter, Lindsy Coleman.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will be held Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dan Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
