TYLER, Texas — Jane Byrne Arnholt, 89, a former Mount Vernon resident and recently of Tyler, Texas, passed away on the morning of April 22, 2010, at The Hospice of East Texas.
Mrs. Arnholt was born Oct. 12,1920, in Hamilton, Ohio. She was the daughter of John Charles (JC) and Cordula Rettig Byrne. Growing up in Oxford, Ohio, she was a graduate of McGuffy High School and later received both a Bachelor of Arts and master’s degree from Miami University in 1943. She had been a former resident of Loudonville from 1946-67 and Mount Vernon from 1967-77. She later resided in Spring, Texas. She has been living in Tyler, Texas, since 2006.
She was a retired high school English teacher, as well as a school librarian. She taught for many years in the Loudonville and Mount Vernon high schools. She participated in church activities and for many years, she operated the library at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Spring, Texas. She was an accomplished artist and active reader.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert H. Arnholt; her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen A. “Molly” and Paul Goodwin of Cortland, N.Y.; her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen C. and Roslyn S. Arnholt of Tyler, Texas; daughter-in-law, Joan Arnholt Hess of Grove City; daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. and Robert M. Curtis of Galena; grandsons, Michael A. Curtis with wife Lydia Schlegel Curtis, Columbus, and Patrick R. Curtis, Galena; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Robert Arnholt; her parents; and two brothers, Thomas K. and John Carleton (Jack) Byrne.
A small family service was held in Tyler, Texas. A graveside service will be held at a later time with her burial in the Loudonville Cemetery, Loudonville, Ohio.
